On Saturday, May 21 the Tampa Bay Rowdies professional soccer team played the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at St. Pete’s Al Lang Stadium. This game was the Times’ entitlement game, a benefit as part of our sponsorship of the Rowdies.
Oversized "Yellow Cards” were distributed to all attendees as they entered the stadium. One side was yellow, and fans raised them when the Rowdies were fouled, with the announcer saying “A Tampa Bay Times Yellow Card has been given to xx player.” The other side was a QR code for a contest to win a basket of Rowdies gear. Nearly 700 fans entered, and the winner was announced at halftime. Those who entered are now a part of our email database.
Tampa Bay Times CEO Conan Gallaty, was the honorary captain of the game throwing out the game ball before the match.
At halftime, 2022 Pulitzer Prize winners for Investigative Reporting, Rebecca Woolington, Eli Murray and Corey Johnson, were recognized on the field for their outstanding work while Rowdies mascots threw Times branded t-shirts to the crowd.
Times and tbt* Weekend logos were displayed on in-stadium LED boards.
To top it all off, the Rowdies won 3-1! The Tampa Bay Times is proud to sponsor the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
